hey guys, I'm new to the site... know a few of you from work. A lot of you seem to know your stuff real well, so I was wondering if I could get some guidance on where to go with my car. I've got a '98 Mustang that's basically stock and I'm trying to decide between ported out 99+ heads (the heads on the 96-98 mustangs are relatively restrictive), or some kind of blower. I don't know too much about various blowers or the heads upgrade besides what I've read in forums and a few magazines, so I was wondering if anyone had some experience in this area to share? does anyone know which blowers will be able to deliver the most even power (and how much of it?), and does anyone have a good idea of what kind of gains I can expect from the new heads? Also, what about the cost and the amount of difficulty involved in either mod? Thanks a lot!

oh yeah, also planning to do ecu, throttle body, intake, etc to go along with either route, and I was thinking I'd run about 5-6 pounds of boost with the blower.

Thanks again.

Ported heads are a better upgrade right now unless ya got 2.5k in the bank to throw down on a SC.

john, you silly goose. 14.gif I was just thinking I could get some specific numbers if there was someone on here running a similar setup. you did give me alot of useful information at work about both options, but I wanted to see what the general feeling about them was in a setting like this and what some other people had chosen and why. It's a lot of money to be spending, especially on library funds, and though a sc seems like the best choice (even considering the cost), porting the heads still seems like the better option to me... I'm worried mostly about detonation and doing something harmful to the car... I realize there's probably little reason to fear that, I guess I just have a lot to learn. but anyway, sorry you felt that way, but I wouldn't even know about either of these options if you hadn't told me about them and taken the time to explain them to me. just wanted to see what the word on the street was. also, I didn't have any actual problems with my stang (at the moment rolleyes.gif ) to ask about, so I figured it would be a good ice breaker to ask about that. and actually, that picture wasn't from my camera but I do got one...we should take some pics at the library of yours for SRO. the below pic was from the insurance guys after the deer attacked it, I photoshopped the damage out of the front fender...you can see if you look close, the light is not quite right.

Blown engines can certainly benefit from ported heads, so get both.

yeah, hoping to do both eventually, but probably one soon and the next at least a few years after that. but in the case that I don't get around to both, I wanted to make the best decision. another thing I've been wondering about is if anything computer-related or otherwise has to be changed to switch to a 70 or 75mm throttle body? (this would be before the heads or sc or anything else major) anybody had any experience with that?
